The Choices Room-Linwood A+ Behavior Expectations

Student Conduct
Linwood A+ is first and foremost a community! Success in our arts-centered, challenging academic program depends on all of us fulfilling our responsibilities, both to ourselves and to our Linwood A+ community.

Linwood’s Behavior Specialist and the Linwood staff will teach students the procedures, expectations, and safety rules for different areas of the school and the school bus by explaining, discussing, and practicing with them. This occurs for ALL Linwood A+ students at the beginning of the year, and frequently throughout the year. Students will also be given verbal reminders when needed and will be identified as meeting expectations through positive comments, classroom privileges, and other means. Each day that students walk into school they have a clean slate and a fresh opportunity to meet expectations as a member of the Linwood A+ community. If any student chooses not to meet school expectations the Linwood A+ staff will attempt behavior interventions that may include:

Verbally reminding student of expected behavior
Asking student to “take a break” in class
Asking student to “take a break” in another class
Conferencing with student
Phoning student’s parent or guardian
Writing student’s name on classroom chalkboard
Referring student to social worker

All School District policies and procedures apply to Linwood A+. Severe disruption and behavior that endanger anyone will result in immediate referral to the Principal or Behavior Specialist, and may result in dismissal, suspension, notification of police, and/or expulsion from school.

Behavior Intervention Students given a referral to go to the behavior “CHOICES ROOM” may first meet with the Principal. In the Choices Room, they work with the Behavior Specialist on having a calm voice and a calm body. Next a discussion is held to determine why the student was sent from class. The focus is on honesty and taking responsibility for one’s own actions. A verbal or written plan is then made to help the student be successful if the same problem arises in the future. The student must complete any work they have missed in class. A phone call from the Behavior Specialist, the classroom teacher, or the principal may be made to parents or guardian explaining the student’s referral to the Choices Room.

When students leave the Choices Room they take a referral form home, which is to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to school the following day. Parents or guardians of students with repeated referrals for behavior may be invited to come meet with Linwood staff to work together to plan for appropriate behavior.

Toys
Items of non-school nature should not be brought to school. These items can be very disruptive to the overall educational setting and are expensive to replace by families if lost, stolen, or broken. Investigations into the loss of these items will not occur. This includes but is not limited to Yu-Gi-Oh Cards, laser pens, toys, headphones, Game Boy games or cartridges, or C.D. players. Confiscated items will be given to the Principal, who will return them to parents/guardians.

Weapons
Possession of any weapon or look-alike weapon (including toys) in school is an offense that can result in immediate suspension and/or recommendation for expulsion.
