We celebrated Johnny Apple Seed's birthday by reading about Johnny Appleseed and retelling his biography using a flannel board. We read many apple themed books such as Rain Makes Applesauce
and Apples by Gail Gibbons. We sang an apple song, Farmer Brown's Five Green Apples. Ask your child to sing it to you. We drew and wrote apple number stories: 4 + 2 = 6. Ms. Griffin
Ms. Griffin, 1st grade teacher
had 4 apples and Marcus gave her 2 more, how many altogether? We measured our apples using tape measures and rulers and weighed our apples on a scale. We graphed our favorite apples and made our own
Apple book modeled after Dr. Seuss's Apples Up On Top. We made apple prints with paint. We added an apple poem to our Poetry Book. We even cooked our own applesauce. It was delicious.
Here is our recipe:
Peel and Slice apples. Put in a crock pot or cook over the stove. Add a little cinnamon and brown sugar to taste. Cook until your house smells delicious!
