 | |  | | | | Committees at Linwood A+ | | Throughout the year various staff and committees have the
responsibility for collecting data on and monitoring items in the SCIP.
Focus on Students
The
Focus on Students Committee assists in maintaining a safe and positive
learning environment for continued student academic success. This
includes educating staff and students in the areas of respect for all,
which in the past has brought Heart of the Beast Puppeteers to Linwood
for a residency on Human Rights, and also CLIMB Theater for plays about
bullying and bystander behavior.
Family and Community Partnership
The
Family and Community Partnership Committee consists of staff,
parents/guardians, and a District representative. The committee follows
the District adopted Joyce Epstein model for developing school, family,
and community partnerships. This model promotes and supports 6 types of
parent and community involvement to increase student’s academic
success. Committee goals include: increasing the diversity of families
involved in school, increasing the level of communication with
families, supporting families in their parenting skills, providing
strategies to work with children at home, and maintaining and
increasing community partnerships, including volunteers and membership
in decision making bodies of the school.
Quality Instruction
The
Quality Instruction Committee oversees the school curriculum and
academic performance of students. They work to coordinate the
school-wide curriculum, support and encourage implementation of the A+
model through collaboration and integration, review testing/assessment
results to identify areas of need, and support implementation of state
and district curriculum requirements.
Staff Development
The
Staff Development Committee’s role is to make recommendations on yearly
budget to the Site Council and principal, based on staff input.
The Child Study Team
Special
education programs and support services are available for students who
qualify in the areas of learning disabilities, hearing and vision
impairment, physical therapy, occupational therapy and
emotional/behavior disorders.
To access special education
programs and support services, the Linwood A+ Child Study Team must
first evaluate students. Teachers or parents can initiate a request for
an evaluation. The classroom teacher first attempts several
interventions designed to increase the student’s ability to be
successful in the regular education setting. If no noticeable
change occurs, the teacher forwards their report to the Child Study Team.
The
Child Study Team will consider each child individually and decide
whether an assessment is appropriate for the child. If an assessment is
appropriate, an assessment planning meeting is scheduled with the
parents. Parental permission is required for the assessment to happen.
Parents are essential members of the Child Study Team and are directly
involved in all decisions regarding their child.
Academic Improvement Plan
As
part of the promotion policy, any student performing significantly
below grade level standards in one or more areas, is placed on an
Academic Improvement Plan (AIP). Classroom teachers work with parents
to develop this action plan to accelerate learning. The AIP committee
oversees the process and looks for resources to help students.
P.T.A.
The
PTA is an organization made up of parents & teachers from the
Linwood A+ community. Its mission is to work together to foster parent
involvement in school events & day-to-day activities, give teachers
& parents an opportunity to work together to aid students in the
learning & development process, and build resources of parents
& teachers to help with fund-raising & other school events. The
PTA also works to educate parents & families about the programs
& facilities available at Linwood A+.
